Welcome to ITAM

In light of currrent events, ITAM extends an invitation to Mexican and international students currently residing and studying in the US who would like to continue their education in Mexico. This website will give you information about the opportunities ITAM can provide, guidance through our application process, and advice on other aspects of moving to Mexico for college or graduate education. We also have opportunities for exchange students who would like to spend up to a year at ITAM. Scholarships and other financial aid are available. Funding decisions will take into account both merit and financial need considerations and will be taken on a case-by-case basis.

Immigration and Legalization

Immigration and Legalization

All non-citizens of Mexico need to obtain a student visa to study at ITAM. To obtain a student visa, see the official requirements at: http://www.gob.mx/sre/acciones-y-programas/visa-de-residente-temporal-estudiante

ITAM will provide letters of admission required for the visa process, and when the student has financial aid from ITAM, it will provide letters explaining the amount of aid.

If your high school or college degree was obtained outside Mexico, you must upon arrival apply for legalization of studies at the Mexican Public Education Ministry (SEP, for “Secretaria de Educacion Publica”). For this purpose, you will need the following documents:

  1. Birth certificate
  2. High school diploma (this is required for both college and graduate level study).
  3. High school transcripts only when applying for college level education.
  4. College degree and transcripts if applying for graduate study.
  5. All documents issued outside of Mexico should be duly notarized and apostilled before you arrive in Mexico.

A recent decree of the Secretary of Public Education will make Legalization of studies only required for students who practice professionally in Mexico during or after their course of study. Check with the director of admissions for your desired program of study before proceeding with the Legalization process, as it may not be necessary in your case.
